Welcome to our practice

The Doctors  and Staff at Horden Group practice are proud to offer the highest standard of patient-centred healthcare.

We run many clinics for the management of chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes and offer a wide variety of other medical services including antenatal and postnatal care, minor surgery, childhood vaccinations and well-person check-ups.

Our main practice is located in Horden and we have a branch surgery in Peterlee. Facilities for our disabled patients are available at both surgeries.

Horden Group Practice is a Training Practice

This involves fully qualified Doctors working in the Practice for up to 12 months in order to become GPs.

What are the advantages of this?

Training practices must meet higher standards than ordinary practices. Doctors who train others must have had extra training themselves. Doctors who have recently worked in hospital often bring new ideas and help the practice keep up to date.

Training doctors locally helps to make sure that there are enough GPs in the area.

Talk Before You Walk

Patients across Durham Dales, Easington and Sedgefield have been reminded to ‘Talk Before You Walk’ when in need of care when their GP practice is closed.

By phoning NHS 111, patients who need to be seen urgently on the same day will be offered an appointment with a healthcare professional either at their own GP surgery or at another surgery nearby called a Primary Care Service or a hub.

Primary Care Services are available across the area.

New Phone System Goes Live!

On Wednesday 23 October we will be going live with our new phone system.

Our new phone system has extra features such as:

  • Patient call back – If we are experiencing a high volume of calls, you may be offered a call back. The system holds your position in the queue and you receive a call back from the practice when you are next in line.
  • Computer system integration – If your telephone number is linked to your practice electronic records, this will help the system to link to your medical notes when you call the practice.

Once implemented further features can be added/removed to enable a smoother service for our patients.

We kindly request your patience at this time 🙏🏻

Thank you.
